Slic
songwriter - producer - visual artist | Brooklyn
Slic, the moniker of Brooklyn-by-way-of-Miami’s Cami Dominguez, hews dance music down to the bone, to the pleasures of moving closer to recognition and release with every step. Dominguez’s longstanding affair with the club began as a teenager in Miami, amidst the EDM explosion of the early 2010s while Carl Cox was still DJing underground warehouse parties. In 2018, Dominguez moved to Brooklyn to work in art, ascribing to the New York fantasy that the top of the world is just out of reach. Their first EP ‘Toygirl’ was born out of this suspension of disbelief: jaded, broke, and outside of the industry, the point of no return became the rebirth of Dominguez’s artistic agency. In an era where queer musics are increasingly digital and club-centric, Slic’s debut EP, Toygirl, harkens back to 90’s alt-rock and synthpop as much as it looks to the future. Their live instrumentation melds seamlessly with percussive, heavily affected digital productions.
